THE LOCAL EXPERIENCE

The local Xhosa people are friendly and helpful, sharing their culture with anyone that is interested. You can experience the vibe of the local music in the ethnic bars, share the local food, stories and historical knowledge of the area.

In the surrounding area, you will have an opportunity to explore the neighbouring beaches and estuaries and The Hole in the Wall, which the locals call “izi Khaleni” meaning place of thunder. During certain water conditions, the waves clap in such a way that the concussion can be heard throughout the valley.

Ocean View Hotel in Coffee Bay is also known as “The Place of Happy Returns” as many guests return after many years, having spent their honeymoon in Coffee Bay and then bringing their children and grandchildren to enjoy and witness the spirit of uniqueness of a real rustic, Wild Coast family holiday.
